With Sony’s MLB The Show 21 releasing on both Playstation and Xbox, as well as being included in Xbox Game Pass, this year’s addition is bound to bring in loads of players new to the series. That said, there are some settings you’ll want to change to ensure you get off on the right foot. I’m only going to list the options worth changing, so let’s quickly recap what those are and why.
Hitting
- Hitting View – Strike Zone, Strike Zone 2, or Strike Zone High will be your best options here, as they give the clearest view of the ball coming out of the pitcher’s hand. Whichever of these you prefer most are perfectly fine.
- In-Play View Offense – High is optimal for having the best view, but this really is personal preference.
- Hitting Interface – Zone is the most accurate setting for hitting. It will take some getting used to, but 100% worth learning via Custom Practice repetitions.
- Input Type – Buttons keeps it simple with a quick reaction time.
- Plate Coverage Indicator (PCI) – Keep this On, as this is your targeting for Zone hitting interface. Customization of the PCI is personal preference, but I’ve listed my preference below.
- PCI Center – Diamonds.
- PCI Inner – Wedge.
- PCI Outer – None.
- PCI Color – White.
- PCI Fadeout – Inner & Outer.
- Baserunning Interface – Default is fine here, personal preference.
Pitching
- Pitching Interface – Pinpoint Pitching is the new option here and is the most accurate, but also the most difficult. If you struggle with it, Pure Analog or Meter are fine to use. Being new, the community is still learning about Pinpoint, so this may change.
- Pitching View – Strike Zone is preferred to have a view of the base runners as well as a clear view of the zone. However, you won’t lose much value if you choose something more interesting like Broadcast.
- Pitch Ball Marker – Pitch Trail On will keep the pitch position marker on, which you’ll want.
- Pitch Delay – Setting this to Faster will actually reduce downtime between CPU pitches.
Fielding
- Throwing Interface – Button Accuracy will give you most control, but you can use Buttons if you really struggle with the meter. Just know that Buttons does have some level of randomness with errors.
- In-Play View Defense – High is optimal for having the best view, but this really is personal preference.
- Catch Position Indicator – Personal preference, but Drifting Ball is a bit more aesthetic and makes tracking more interesting.
