SWTOR: Bonethrasher Guide

Recommended Group Composition

  • 7x DPS (have the tanks DPS if you don’t want to swap out)
  • 1x Healer (have second healer DPS and off-heal when needed)

Notable Mechanics

  • Frontal cleave
  • Single target ground pound – adds a debuff that increases damage taken
  • Single add spawns throughout the encounter
  • Two adds spawn at 50%
  • Boss has no aggro table
  • Wonderful cantina music that you cannot help but laugh at

Normal Strategy

  • Since the boss has no aggro table, everyone should spread out so they are not within cleave range of another player if the boss targets them. This will help minimize the amount of necessary healing and allow the healers to see who has aggro, for single-target healing.
  • Another strategy is to spread out in a semi-circle behind the boss. Then the person targeted, just strafes in front of him to avoid the group taking damage.
  • The boss will do a single target ground pound that will add a debuff to the targeted player. This player should blow defensive cooldowns and make sure he is behind the boss immediately after this occurs, as the boss can 1-shot you while you have this debuff.
  • A single add will spawn throughout the fight, DPS it down immediately. CC helps to avoid it from reaching the boss, as he eats the add and gains a damage buff – Avoid this when possible.
  • At 50%, two elites spawn. Mark one, DPS it immediately, the kill the other.

Hard Mode Strategy

  • The boss hits much harder in hard mode; however, it’s the same strategy.
  • You will want all players to be above 15k health, to be safe.
  • Provide shields to the players with the lowest health.

Commando Tips

  • Save your shield for immediately after you are targeted with the ground pound. This will help out your healers and reduce the chance of getting 1-shot.

5-second Recap

  1. Spread out.
  2. Kill adds.
  3. Burn boss.

Ran this fight last week or the week before and he seemed to have a weird shimmer color on him. Is this a bug, or is this the developers working on visual cues to show he’s not tauntable?

    Anyone else seeing this?

  2. Accomp says:

If you’re talking about the reddish glowy aura he had, that almost looked like the enrage animation – then yes. I’m not sure if it was a matter of being a non-tauntable animation or not. If so, not really a great visual cue in that regard.

  3. Wesleycrushers says:

Read one of the posts with the NDA falling off yesterday where a dev was talking about having more visual cues for things, and one of the specific things he was talking about was if the boss is non-tauntable. Only reason that I made that guess. Wish they would tell us a little more clearly…

  4. Accomp says:

Yeah, I saw that one as well. I think it’s a good idea to have something like that – not sure about non-tauntable, but for things like procs and whatnot. Either way, the visual cues should be very straight forward and notifiable without needing to take a second guess. A feint aura will not do the trick. We’ll see once 1.2 releases.

Everyone should have target of target turned on and actually pay attention to this in this fight.

The last time I ran this, we had a player shouting out who Bonethrasher was targeting. I was really surprised at just how accurate they were!
Didn’t occur to me until I read Wesleycrushers’ post just now that they had target of target turned on haha~~

WTB target of target of target so I can see who the boss is targeting as a healer! o3o
